A little tune

I came up with a little tune. Tell me what you think of it.

Feel free to comment on the musicality of it, the structure, form, melody, etc.

Feel free to comment on the technology: the noise level, the clarity and accuracy of the instrumentation, etc.

Fell free to say what comes to mind. I'd rather see the real details of constructive criticism to make a better song rather than to have everybody say it's "ok." You either "LOVE" it or you can find flaws in it. I know it has flaws, but I can't put my finger on them.

Oh, you might want the link. hehe

(That directory has open .htacess because all the stuff on there was either composed by me or recorded by me. The tracks that have a crappy piano sound were actually household recordings on my old 1968 upright.)

its not the greatest thing out there, but not bad. I feel like ive heard it before but i know i haven't. I like the 6/8 feel of it and it kinda sounds "Renaissance-y"😀 ... Instrument wise is my only beef with it. The melody line's kind of annoying but the song in general is pretty good. Overall, nice job on it. I know how hard it is to write stuff on the computer (I am currently in the midst of transcribing the Batman Theme... I got the main theme of it now i just gotta get the last 4 minutes of the original movie theme so Kudos to you for attempting it!) What program did you use (I use Finale 2002).

I write MIDI in Noteworthy Composer. I convert MIDI to WAV with Timidity (22MB download for the instrument definition, worth every byte). I convert WAV to MP3 with Winamp 3's plugins.

Thats a good program also... like i said, writing stuff on the computer is a pain in the arse but if you do it correctly (which you did) then its worth the time....

It didn't hit me at first, but I just realized that MartyMcFly3 is the coolest name I've ever seen on Anandtech. BTTF rules!

LOL thanks... the random 3 at the end was just a number i chose but after looking at it, it could stand for the trilogy... I scare myself sometimes 😀

i think my biggest problem is the quality of the instruments on the track. also, i dont think there is enough varation on the core. it is very familair, but i think that might be becuase the repetition is so constant and its a very obvious repetition...even to the casual listener. but its some good work.
OH! i know what it reminds me of: the love theme from mst3k.

yeah now that you mention it, it does have a hint of that, but definitely not a complete ripoff... i say change some instruments and variety and it will rock dude...

The background strings are quite generic. Is that where your "quality" issues arise? I've been thinking about writing it as a set of individual instruments for a more baroque sound.

I don't recall that theme, but I am familiar with Mystery Science Theatre 3000. I've probably only head that theme once in my entire life, and I wasn't listening intently.

if anybody wants to hear my incomplete Batman theme, PM me your email addy and ill send you a midi of what ive written so far (it took me like a year and a half and im proud of it so far)... if you listen to the whole medley on the soundtrack i basically wrote to the end of the main theme before it trails off into other parts...

Go ahead and send it to kevinthenerd@yahoo.com . When I get a chance, I'll convert it to MP3 just to show off how well timidity synthesizes stuff. For now, I have homework.

If I had more free time, I'd study Bach's works from a fresh, non-scholastic perspective just to learn the elements of great music. There's something about the way he can develop a theme that can be learned by every modern musician, in my opinion.

Beethoven too.... just look at Beethoven's 9th. The popular theme found in the fourth movement develops from humble beginnings to the most majestic fanfare in the whole classical period, IMO. (excluding, of course, Handel's Messiah, which actually falls into a different period of music)

thanks. I'm going to bed, but I'll see about doing it tomorrow afternoon. Friday afternoons are my only free time during the week to really devote to such things.
