go to the Task Manager <CTRL+ALT+DEL==>Task Manager> and click on the processes tab. Right click on the processes one at a time, some of them will allow you to set affinity. What this does is tells the program which CPU to grab resources from first, as we all know MS doesnt utilize multi-processor systems very well this is the best way to help it along and gain some great performance for you server.

Thanks for the info, would this work with NT4?

I tried the trick in NT4, but I got an Access Denied error. I was attempting to set a higher priority for dnetc.exe which is currently running as a service.

No it does not. It tells NT to only execute instuctions from the application on the selected CPU.

Who is "we"? MS SMP is actually very good, if you disagree then perhaps you can tell "us" who does it better?

Skippy, well for starters, BeOS, all *nix variants, and Netware are far better at getting performance out of multi-processor systems. It is easy to sit back and pick other peoples threads apart, but this is for users helping each other, so rather than criticizing why dont you try to come up with something to help out in the forum?!

Bullsh**. Who told you that, slashdot?

Next time consider the facts before spouting misinformation and nonsense about SMP.

Skippy, I dont know you and I dont get my information off websites, I do use these OS's in various ways and on many different machines. I dont know if you think coming to this board and acting like a 14 year old kid, who has nothing to do except trash other peoples opinions, is going to get you the attention you are craving? If you are such an expert with IIS <which its a wonder anyone who knew anything would stick with IIS long enough to become an "expert"> tell me how to set up vhosts using it? If you have nothing constructive to say than just be quiet.

This is old news.. anyway, I had to use affinity, I have a affinity utility for WinNT4 which lets you set programs/irq to certain processor only.

I had a major problem with Bloomberg's DDE server cuz they don't work in dual processor, had to set it into one till their programmer admit it and rewrote the program.
