a little problem with my monitor

My monitor is NEC 1735NXM with GF4 MX-440 video card. When i turn on the monitor, it just showed the Windows a couple seconds, then it went black. Not completely black cuz i can see my windows a bit. I have no idea what's wrong with the monitor. Is it because of the cable? or the monitor? .....
 
You have access to another pc to hook it up to to check? That'd be the quickest way of ascertaining whether the problem is with the pc or the monitor. If it's the PC, try dusting everything off and reseating the video card. If the monitor, try a different cable if it's the type which plugs into the back of the monitor, rather than the built-in type.
