a little oc help

hi all, ive got a p4 3.0e and i was wondering what the safe max v-core is? thnx. sorry i guess i should elaborate a little more, im OC'ing and i can only keep it stable if i raise the v-core, and like most of us im greedy and want more but i dont want to fry my cpu. right now ive got it stable at 3.45ghz @ 1.4125v (slightly above default) and i want to push a little more (stock hsf) id like to try and get another .5 out of her if not more. thnx

I would think twice about any addition of volts that is when overclocking can be hazardous to you machines health, unless you can afford another..what are they 180 dollars now is 3 gigs really not fast enough, think about it a three gig chip is very fast, that couls calculate the distance to the sun in inches in a fraction of a second. what i would try and i say this cuz i dont know what you have in your box but upgrade somthing in it i dont think that your chip is the thing holding you back, have you ever thought about a real chip like say the almighty athlon64?

im working with an asus p4p800se mobo, p4 3.0e, 4x512 ocz dc value ram, bba radeon x850xtpe and an ocz powerstream 520w. im trying my oc like this: 230x15=3.45@1.41v, mem 320mhz 2.5-4-4-8@2.75v, agp/pci 66/33@1.6v at these settings it seems to run fine(ive looped 3dmark01 for hours) but whenever i try to go a little more 235x15@1.43 i get errors after looping 3dmark01 for about 45mins-1hr. any ideas on how i can increase the stability and what is the max vcore that i can go to? all of this is being done on air with stock hsf and a custom fan/shroud on the n/b. thnx for the help

your ram is running 320 mhz??!? wow!!! that must be some sorta speed record for value ram!!!

are you sure it's 320? or was that a typo and you meant 230? 🙂

anyway... i'd say just up the voltage up a little... 1.41 is not a lot.

320mhz= 160x2. wont run at 1:1 in my oc, gotta love value ram🙂 i know the vcore isnt that high but what is the max i can go with the stock hsf. ive tried to put it at 1.43v and its still unstable, i dont want to raise it more until i find what the max is. thnx

ahh so that 320 is ddr320... not actually 320 🙂

what's the sspec number on that processor?

should be something like.. SL7...

....

i'm not too sure about the prescotts... but with the northwood, i ran mine at 1.65 volts on air cooling and had no problems at all...

yes, increasing voltage does reduce the life of a cpu to some degree.. but how long do you plan on keeping that processor for? unless it's for 5+ years, i wouldn't worry too much...

i wouldn't over clock that prescott thats what i have! mine already overheats in games without ocing at all. i don't recomend it unless you watercool.

My BIOS allows .1v increases, so I figure that I want the same as stock voltage like if OCing would cause a decrease. So I figure just make it so it is like stock voltage. Probably does not matter all that much,

well got it stable(looped 3dmark01se for 1 1/2hrs) at 3.52ghz@1.42vcore put the mem at 3:2(266) and let er rip 44idle 58load measured with hardcano12 probe in the hsf
