I bought an Asus K8V-E Deluxe mb here then....(believing the memory was compatible) picked up an A64 3200 and Kingston KHX4000/512R HyperX from someone else.

Now realizing that board runs ddr400 and the memory I bought is ddr500 this won't jive. Since I have considerably more tied up in the ram I figure it's probably better to get a different board instead of change ram. What mb(s) do you suggest that would work with the KHX4000 ?

I've only recieved the board so far, memory and cpu is due next week. Would faster memory just run at slow speeds on the board? If it won't run to its potential it would be better to replace the board as there is about $55 price difference per stick of ram between the PC4000 and PC3200

Faster memory will still run @ DDR400 speeds. In fact, alot of peeps buy faster memory to overclock easier. That memory should work just fine.

That sounds Great ! I was afraid this was going to push completion back another week. I have only built 1 system before and putting it together is the easy part, knowing how everything effects each other is still where I get lost sometimes.

You shouldn't have any problem using that memory in that particular configuration. The benefit, as FastEddie says, would come from you being able to potentially overclock your machine better, although as this topic for some interesting results with "value" vs "high-performance" memory. You might wish to pick up a quality value memory (such as this one -- http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=20-146-299&depa=0 ) and sell the Kingston to someone else, might be able to pick up a few bucks.

All in all, though, no worries, man!
