A little help :)

I went to distributed.net and downloaded the client, installed it, set the e-mail for a mini-team, set the priority so it's only cracking RC5 blocks...but I was trying to set it to fetch/flush to Mikas, but I don't seem to have the config.ini file to add what I need to, so now I'm worried I downloaded the wrong thing. I'm running Windows 2000 and the only .ini file I have is dnetc.ini, and it doesn't mention anything about networking.

Help! 🙂

Just open up that ini file with any text editor and add the following line:

[networking]
autofindkeyserver=no
keyserver=teamanandtech.com

Save it, and restart the client.

Mrs. Antisocial -
Don't forget to include this:

[misc]
project-priority=rc5=1, ogr=0, des=0, csc=0

Welcome aboard!

Don't worry, I think you've downloaded the right client...You just need a little more setup!

I assume you have the little "Cow" in the taskbar...If not, there is a problem and you need to post here about it...If so, right click on it now: You'll see:

1) General Client Options
2) Buffer and Buffer Update Options
3) Performance related options
4) Logging Options

9) Discard settings and exit
0) Save settings and exit

now select item #2 <enter>

You'll now see something like this:

distributed.net client configuration: Buffer and Buffer Update Options
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Buffer in memory only? (no disk I/O) ==> no
2) In-Buffer Filename Prefix ==> buff-in
3) Out-Buffer Filename Prefix ==> buff-out
4) Checkpoint Filename ==> CP
5) Disable buffer updates from/to a keyserver ==> no
6) Keyserver<->client connectivity options
7) Disable buffer updates from/to remote buffers ==> no
8) Remote buffer directory ==>
9) Load-work precedence ==> RC5,CSC=0,OGR=0,DES=0
10) Additional buffer-level checking ==> 0 (none)
11) Buffer-level check interval ==> 0:00 (on buffer change)
12) Preferred packet size (2^X keys/packet) ==> RC5=33
13) Fetch work threshold ==> RC5=23000,OGR=0
14) Fetch time threshold (in hours) ==> RC5=0

0) Return to main menu

Choice -->

now select 6 <enter>

Up to this:

distributed.net client configuration: Keyserver<->client connectivity options
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Network Timeout (seconds) ==> 60 (default)
2) Automatically select a distributed.net keyserver? ==> no
3) Keyserver hostname ==> proxy.teamanandtech.com
4) Keyserver port ==>
5) Keyserver is a personal proxy on a protected LAN? ==> no
6) Firewall/proxy protocol ==> none/transparent/mapped
7) Use HTTP encapsulation even if not using an HTTP proxy? ==> no
8) Always use UUEncoding? ==> no
9) Dialup-link detection ==> Normal mode

0) Return to Buffer and Buffer Update Options

Choice -->

select item 2 <enter> and enter "no" and save. This will give you the options #3 and #4 above. Set the items #3 and #4 to the above information (3 <enter>...Then enter proxy.teamanandtech.com <enter> and save...)

Now exit by the 0 <enter> , 0 <enter> ...Until you're back to cracking...

All blocks flushed through the proxy.teamanandtech.com are flushed to Mika's automatically.

Hope this helped...

P.S. What mini-team? Just curious?

UPDATE: You guys are too fast...Russ..Should that be PROXY.TEAMANANDTECH.COM ?

Engineer (OOPS!),

I think it's only proxy if she wants to connect to the RR. Whenever I flush to Mika's I just use teamanandtech.com.

Russ, NCNE

"Ray", I think you have me confused with someone else?!!!! 😛 Your old buddy RaySun2Be? Anyway, the RR flushes to Mika's and gives you a much better chance of keeping blocks in case Mika's gets stuck without any as the team pproxies will usually keep nice little buffers for themselver🙂!!!

(P.S. Robert!!!)

😛

I think I'm all set now. I should set it to teamanandech.com and not Mika's directly?

Engineer, I went with TWTA cause I found out there are 5 other locals on the team. I only joined a mini-team cause my little old (stress on the word OLD) Compaq isn't worth individual stats. I'm building a new computer, though, a Asus A7V, 700 T-Bird overclocked to 908 (which is currently being "tested" in my husbands rig, and he's running RC5, too), all I need still is a case, hardrive, floppy, CDRom, soundcard, fans...you know, not much 😛

EDIT: Okay, while I was dealing with the forum not responding (hehe) I saw Engineers post about why I should flush to the other place. Will change now.

Mrs AS Virge-

Thanks for joining TA! 🙂 x amount of your computers will determine how fast we beat /. and eventually keep our #1 position away from the DPCs!!

🙂

Uh... One - that's what project-priority=rc5=1, ogr=0, des=0, csc=0 means... duh - you're the one that told ME that.. 🙂

Well... bust my britches... you're right (again) :|
I guess I'll actually have to READ posts before responding to them.

😀
