A little help

Maybe someone has a suggestion, since I've never seen this before. I just put together a new computer and it runs great except for one little problem. Occasionally when I am installing programs to the HD, the whole system will lock up, and only restarting clears it up. Most programs will install eventually, but rarely on the first attempt. Playing games or using apps. it's fine, no lockups. Anyone have any ideas? These are the system specs:

Abit BE6-II MB
Celeron 500
128 meg pc-133
SB Live
Voodoo 3 2000 pci
IBM Deskstar 15gig HD
Win 98 SE

All are running the latest drivers and the bios is the latest revision. I'm not overclocking.

Thanks for your help.

have you shut off all the background programs when you are trying to do an install? you can check this by hiting ctrl-alt-del once to see whats running, you can also shut things down one at a time.

If you have an Anti virus or using the BIOS AntiVirus features, try to disable them b4 installing a program.
