Client has amd k2 350 system...On bootup, fails to detect the hard drives...master and slave on ide1...Went over there last Monday, pressed the cable connections and got it back up. Gave it a thorough scandisk and defrag. Replaced the cable with a used spare.

System was booting ok until this afternoon. He left the computer on the desktop and a couple of 10 minutes later returned to find a hd err msg (which he didn't write down). Tried to reboot...no harddrives detected.
I think that because it posts and will run thru the ide detect that this should not be a bios issue since it will boot from a startup disk..but would like confirmation. If it were a harddrive issue, I would expect that the slave would be detected and it isn't. Sounds to me like the mb is history.

Has anyone seen anthing like this before? Is there any other testing I could do to rule out the mb? TIA, Paul

Hi, I got this problem too.

I've AMD K7 750 Mhz Duron, with Abit Kt7a-Raid.

My harddisk (fujitsu 20 GB , 7200 Rpm) lost it contact to motherboard from time to time, sometimes only after 30 Minutes on, but sometime nothing happened, though it has been On for 8-9 Hours.

A direct Restart doesn't help, the motherboard won't recognise the harddisk , it need few hours to established the next contact.

My conclusion till now:
there are definitely not a heat problem or software Problem. (I've run several test with a cooling fan and a complete new OS Installation).

I've check my harddisk with a tool that delivered from fujitsu, it say that my harddisk is OK.
The next thing I'll do is to check the Cable (haven't done it yet, in Exam stress :( )

I had this problem recently with a computer I built.

HD and CD Burner on same IDE chain. First I used CS. Nothing was detected. Then I manually set master and slave. Worked for 3 weeks, and then stopped working. Just like that.
But the CD Burner on the second chain with the DVD, no more problem.

How odd is that?

The burner is a Plextor, btw, and the HDD is a Barracuda IV.
