A Little Help Please, trouble installing CD-RW

Thanks for having a look. As the title suggests, I just purchased a Lite on CD-RW. When I install it and boot up - it's a no go. And it's kicking out my IDE Controllers so no drives are seen by my OS! I 've had to reinstall Windows twice now.

I've tried installing it both as master and a slave on my secondary IDE channel (along with another optical drive/DVD player). I've checked the jumpers on both units, so no conflict there. I've reseated the IDE cable several times. The only other connection attached is the power.

I have not attached the audio cable/wire.
I have not installed the Nero software.

Can you NOT put two optical drives on one IDE channel? Am I doing something wrong here or did I get another bad unit?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

have you tried connecting only the lite-on drive?
do this and set it to "cable select" and if that still doesn't show up, i'd suggest rma

No, have not tried cable select. Will do and if no go I'll RMA it. (Research indicates the nVidia IDE (SW) drivers are problematic with optical drives. Currently I've got MS drivers in. I'm sorta loath to try again, three Windows installs in one week is a pain.🙂)

Thanks

ps It's annoying and costly how much stuff I've gotta rma. This is the fourth piece of new pc equipment in row I've recieved in non-working order (mobo, psu, HSF, CD-RW). Only my last purchase came in OK, a tube of Arctic Silver.
