hi guys

i was just wondering what you might recommend me..
im looking to get two graphics cards soon for my girl friends pc and her sons, for future games that come out etc.
i was just wondering what you might recommend.. i was looking at ATi cards and the three that instantly come to mind are:

9600 pro £130 + vat (hercules model) (£155 including vat)
9700 pro £184 + vat (gigabyte model) (£218 including vat)
9800 pro £250 + vat (gigabyte model) (£295 including vat)

i had a gigabyte 9700 pro and its was amazing... but what type of model would anyone recommend? are model 'names' important?

the rigs that i would be using them in would be something along the lines of xp's @ 2.2ghz (throughbred (XP1700) and barton (XP2500) core cpus) 512mbs of ram, nf7-s motherboards, etc.. i would be using the cards, mainly for gaming, for games like FPS, driving etc...

i will be buying a rig get me to 2005 sometime machine as my duron rig isnt fast enough for gaming on. its going to be a xp2500, nf7-s, 512mbs of ram etc.. nothing really expensive, but something that will be more than good enough i feel for me, for now. until i can aford and get the amd 64 FX cpu cheap (ish) along with something like a pci-x graphics card..

please can someone help me out here? i will need to buy two of these cards, so price is a bit of a consideration for me.

thanks for the help and the time 🙂

9600 pro is a little light for upcoming games like Half-Life 2 and Doom3 unless you don't mind running at 800x600. 9700 Pro is a great value with a nice jump in speed over the 9600 (and is faster than the 9600 xt as well). Of course the 9800 pro is faster still and the most future-proof of the 3.

If you can wait a little while, the 9800 pro should drop a bit in price as the 9800xt takes over as the top ATI card. Right now in the US there is a huge range of 9800 pro prices ($300 - $375) because only some vendors have dropped prices, if the same is true in the UK you might save £30+ on a 9800 pro just by waiting a couple of weeks.

this is what i have been waiting to hear! darm i knew i should have had a replacement 9700 pro sent to me.. doh!!

i think by the looks of the reviews as well, the 9700 pro does offer some great value. the 9800 pro is a little high considering i need two of them, but saying that, it would be more future proof than a 9700 pro or a 9600 pro.

i wont be able to buy them straight away, i was just wanting some advice as to what to get. i think that a 9800 pro, will do nicely, but at a bit of an expense. but like i always say, i would rather spend out a little more and get quite a bit more than having to spend out twice and possibly make it twice as expensive.

personnally i think my girl friend and her son arent to bothered what they run any game in as long as its smooth. but for me, i have a 22" monitor here, i want to see all the eye candy on, top resoultions and so on.. i imagine its quite a sight to behold.

thanks for the help guys 🙂
