hello everyone.

first of all merry christmas to all.....

second, i just bought an asus a7n266 mobo and amd duron 950 mhz. i wanted to know whether i wll need to buy an amd approved Power supply or, can i use the one that is lying around in my room !

if its a 300W PSU should work well.. a 250W PSU will probably work but will not take as much peripherials.

The AMD approved crap is due to the fact that teh chips need voltage within a specific tolerance. If the tolerence is too high might burn out the mobo/chip.

You can try the PSU you got right now, but later get an AMD approved one.
