OK, friend of mine has a Dell XPS-D 233 system with a Voodoo Banshee in it.

Just tried to walk him through putting a TNT2 Ultra in.

Does all the regular stuff like changing to STandard PCI adapter, removing Voodoo drivers. etc.

Puts TNT card in AGP slot, turns on power on gets nothing , except for 3 beeps.
System won't boot.

Puts Banshee back in, reboots and gets no beeps.

Seems very unlikely card dies in shipping (was packed very well).

Had him reseat TNT in AGP slot firmly, no go.

I know TNT card needs IRQ assigned for VGA.
Is the same true for a Banshee?

Saw on Dell site that if system won't boot, the IRQ not being assigned to VGA could be the problem.

The dell system probably has some generic-"all corners cut for best price" mobo that does not supply enuf power through the agp port for that tnt2.

Man, there is a good answer!

Guess god cut a few corners when supplying your brain with power, functions but does not think!?!

Put the Banshee in and enter the BIOS (probably called "setup" on the Dell). Check to see if there is an option like "Assign IRQ it VGA" and if there is enable it. This is a common setting in most BIOS's I have used and could be what the Dell trouble shooting guide had in mind.

If you are still stuck see who's BIOS Dell is using and cross reference the three beep POST error code to further troubleshoot.

Good luck

i was thinking it's a power issue, Dark.

The guy i was walking this through couldn't find the assign irq>vga option, but we'll keep trying.

Thx all.
