a little help before my computer locks up again?

Hey guys,

I'd really appreciate some help. I'm on an aging Athlon machine (1.3, 384mb ram, Win2k) with about a 2-year-old video card (GeForce4 MX440, 64MB).

I play mostly sports games with the occasional WWII shooter mixed in. For a while, my computer started completely freezing at the loading screen of many new games (no Ctrl-Alt-Del, no nothing). First, I thought I'd just maxed out either the vid card or the rest of the machine. Then I figured I'd try manually installing the latest DirectX drivers (9c). Bam! Everything starts working great (or as well as it can on this old can).

Fast-forward to a few days ago. I install Fifa 2005. Every game I have starts this horrible flickering. OK, no problem. I reinstall NVIDIA's latest drivers, and I uninstall Fifa, and I reinstall DirectX 9c (in that order). Oops. Now I'm back to every game freezing up upon loading.

If any of you have some insight, please please help me out.

Thanks.

Yup, that's on the way in a month or two, but in the meantime, I'm stumped. Anyone, please?

reinstall the nvidia drivers now...since you have directx installed.
see if that helps. If not, maybe the something weird with the new nvidia drivers that you downloaded. If you can find it, try the old drivers you had before.
