hey and I'm starting to do this sortof stuff because of a stop animation class at school, just bought some fimo clay and some wires. My teacher recomending building an armature with toilet paper wrapped in aluminum foil for the hips, chest and head, then use wire for limbs and connecting the peaces together. Then use matchsticks for leg bones and such. Then finaly wrapping aluminum foil around it all becuase the clay sticks better to it. Is that a good way to do it?

Also what do you use there and does it harden?

i presuem clay would stick better... i use a product called 'milliput'

sorry if i wasn't clear, 🙂 i use the the putty 'as' the clay 😛
it has about a 45 minute working time before it starts to get real firm.. you can accelerate the curing by baking it under a lamp or i use a Black and Decker toaster oven for about 15 minutes... while its still soft is when i shape it for wrinkles, folds, rough shapes, etc...

I finished my first armature yesterday, started to put some clay on it and boy the clay is a BITCH to work with, most of the time it was too cool so it was very very hard, most of the time I think normal, still harder than I expected. And then I let a small peace heat under a lamp for too long so it got yes hard and when I tried to bend the peace it just broke down into dust.

But you live and learn 🙂
