A little decibal addition anyone?

Suppose I had two 40 db fans running in my computer. I know that 2 40 db fans doesn't equal 80 db total since decibal is a logirithmic system. But, what does it equal? And if anybody feels like doing the math, what db level sound would 3 40 db fans produce?

im not sure of the exact math, but i do know that when the decibel level doubles, the actual sound goes up by three decibels. So two 40 db fans would equal somewhere around 43 db. Theoretically, 3 40 db fans would equal 44.5 dbs, I think. Someone want to confirm that with a long equation?

two 40db fans are 43.01db
three 40db fans are 44.77db

For your future reference,

Combined noise level=10*log[10^(fan1[dB]/10)+10^(fan2[dB]/10)+...]
