have a wireless plan with Alltel, and have had it for about a year. Well I called Alltel the other day, and I asked them when my one year contract ended, because I was switching service (Alltel Sucks). They told me the 1st of June. There was a real good deal on a cellphone/plan for Cingular, which ended soon, and I set myself up on the plan. Well I call Alltel again today, to see if there was any way to pay out the rest of my contract (12 days) so I can get out of it. Well turns out my plan doesn't end until the 18th of next month. They didn't know what to tell me about being told about the 1st of June, except if I had the name of the person that had told them. Which I didn't. So now I have to get out of my contract with Cingular. I have heard good and bad about Alltel, but I have had nothing but bad experience with them.

I've had nothing but good experiences with them. And, until I had to change to a newer phone because I moved to their national plan, I never had a single dropped call (I still only have very few, perhaps one every couple months that is a result of my phone, and even then only while out in the middle of nowhere). I've also had great experiences with their customer service. Talk to Alltel's customer service, ask for tier two and keep talking with them and asking to get elevated to the next level (politely) until you are talking with someone who really can help you.

Of course, to each his own.

Still, I would _not_ switch to Cingular. I have yet to hear a single good review of their service. Honestly, either Verizon or T-Mobile will have better coverage.

EDIT: I've noticed that a lot of people who complain about dropped calls have phones that look as though they have been through a washing machine filled with rocks. In almost 5 years I've never had anything at all break on either of the two phones I've had. No broken antennas, no cracked cases, no drops down the stairs. Take care of the phone and it'll take care of you.

I tried to tell him I would pay up until the 18th if they would just let me out of the contract. I would PAY for them to shut my phone off. He said that he could set it up where I could pay in full, but if I cancelled it one day before the contract was up, I would have to pay them the $200 cancellation fee as well.

T-Mobile doesn't work in my area. I don't know much about Verizon. But everyone I know has Cingular, and loves it. And they have great deals on plans and phones.
