Heh, I used to get chewed out by the snakepit at least once a day. My TIs liked to yell at everyone equally.
They used to have this game they played with us, called Dope on a Rope. You'd approach the snake pit, they'd yell at you, then tell you to get out, then pull you back when your facing movements weren't perfect. And even if they were perfect, they'd find some reason to pull you back. Ths would go on until there were a few troops waiting behind you to get out. Our TIs wanted each troop to have their fair chance to get bitched at.
The point of the TIs yelling at troops is to raise the troops stress levels. Part of the point of any Basic Training is to see how much stress you can take before you crack. If you crack just having an intimidating individual yell at you, then you're going to self destruct under actual combat conditions.
