A linux Lappy

I just picked up an older laptop (Twinhead Slimnote 5100C) without any extra fixings. It's got floppy, parralel, serial, vga, and a 540mb hd. I'd like to get linux goin on this.

My only problem is, no cd-rom. What are my options? I don't have a lot of money that I want to throw into this thing, but I'd like to see what I can do with it. Maybe use it as a 'node' for a larger headless linux server.

So how do I go about getting linux on this bad boy?

No CD huh....

Couple of options come to mind:

1) Can copy the install directory onto the HD into a directory on a DOS partition and install via a boot floppy... this would fuctionally work just like a CDROM install, but you would have to install a very small Linux... something like peanut... you could then delete the dos parition and install more stuff after the inital install.

2) Use one of the various floppy based installs..

3) Do a FTP type of install..where you boot off a floppy and install directly off a FTP site... but requires internet connection available:
Here is how to do it from the Redhat install guide: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.1-Manual/install-guide/ch-textmode.html

THIS DOCUMENT goes over your options pretty good:
