A lightweight Linux Distro to run in VMware under 10.5

What's wrong with doing a base install of Ubuntu or Debian and then adding whatever packages that you want?

try Xubuntu, perhaps? its a lighter Ubuntu distro based on XFCE.

do you want to just test out a linux desktop and see how you like it, or play with it and learn about the OS? debian has an xfce iso available for etch, or you can do a base install and add whatever desktop environment or window manager you like.

If you installed it directly on the hardware and not on VMWare it probably just didn't have the right ACPI crap to control the fans and they default to full speed to be on the safe side. If that's really the case then it'll likely happen with any distro no matter what's installed.
