A La Carte Religion

We are definitely living in a world of A La Carte religion.
Where those far right religious extremist pick and choose where to draw the lines in the sand.
If the religious were truly religious they'd follow the bible word for word, but as we all know that is not the case.
They hate gays but tolerate and welcome children born out of wedlock.
They accept the divorced, the single mother, the child with no father.
There was once a biblical name given for any child born out of wedlock.
Or for that mother who gave birth with no married husband.

People were stoned for such acts of sins.
Children murdered or cast out and cursed for generations.
But in todays "A La carte" world of religion, these folks on their religious high horse simply decide to believe whatever they chose to believe.
The "Gospel" be damned.
They decide what they take serious, and what to shrug off as an optional.

Homosexuality is always taken seriously by them and always condemned.
If you are gay or follow the gay lifestyle, you are naturally condemned to hell in their gospel.
If you are homosexual you either repent and ask for forgiveness, or you are forever an outcast.
Pick either door A or B damned one. We have no door C.

And the same A La Carte rules apply for most anyone they deem different.
Transgenders do not exist in their world.
A transgender is someone that refuses to accept their physical identity.
If you have men parts, then you are a man. Woman parts, then you are a women.
In their mind, God makes no allowances for an exception to that rule.

Yet still while they hate all they can those deemed unworthy, they will continue to pick and choose what to believe and what not to believe.
What they feel suits their belief at that given moment. Their A LA Carte.
A La Carte religion from their imaginary A La Carte bibles.
Do you prefer the gay condemned to hell entree, or the born out of wedlock forgiven entree?
The unrepentant transgender entree on a bed of fire and brimstone, or the bastard child entree with the forgiving sweet glaze topping?

Notice, most all of these holly roller churches love to post their little cute but always a definite dig welcome sign in front of their building.
For example, "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" (always one of my favorites in bible belt America).
Or some cute little dig in large font aimed towards demeaning of transgenders.
I have yet to see one sign simply stating, "Bastard Child and Mothers Welcome".
Or, "Adulterous Women Forgiven Inside".
Or, "Pimp's, Whores, Degenerates Welcome. Homo's Go Away".

A La Carte Religion.
They're right, you're wrong.
After all, it's in the bible.
At least, the way as they see it.

In some ways I see how the Christian Bible is somewhat similar to how our Constitution/BOR is viewed by quite a few folks.

Some see both as living documents that need to be freshened up and "adapted" to the changing times and attitudes that we live in/with, whereas others view those documents as interpretively incontrovertible and sacrosanct.

The clash between the two is where we meet in the middle and agree to disagree, yet both documents live on, but with different interpretations being sought and answered to by the highest authorities who represent those instruments of faith.

I know of no religious righties, every religious person I know voted D in the last several elections. While I understand that it might be the way of the south, around here the Rs I know are about as religious as a rock.

There is something I coined a long time ago- "godandamericanism". It is the tendency of the Right Religious to also be too patriotic and they conflate religion and an idealized "mom and apple pie" world, a Leave it to Beaver society which never really existed. As far as the rest of Sporty's diatribe, he doesn't care to know anything, ever. He's like the people he describes looking to damn people with fire and brimstone in ignorance. I've met more than a few who call themselves Christians but don't pass the tests they set for others and they are frustrating, but then there are others who are "experts" but don't know the first thing about religions of any kind like the OP. It seems he and some religious have somethng in common, the human desire to hate.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Definitely, a bible belt thing. Never felt comfortable there. Grew up on the edge of it. It's sad that you don't like to mention that you don't go to church on Sunday. Doesn't everybody.

This your first day on this planet? Of course religions are a la carte, they all are and they all have been since day one. That's why there are so many of them and why there are so many offshoots of the same religion. There are more than 30,000 denominations of Christianity alone. Invent a god who believes exactly what you believe and who tells you to behave exactly the same way you were going to behave anyway. Along comes another person who believes all that same shit except he wants to eat meat of Friday, so he invents his own god. And along comes another guy who has no trouble with the meat/fish thing, but he wants to sleep in on Sunday morning and *poof*, another new religion is born.

It's all just a Chinese menu puzzle where everyone picks one core belief from column A, two restrictions from column B and an afterlife philosophy from column C and creates a belief system that he's willing to swallow.

Let's be clear.

A lot of "Christians" are really just worshipping Mammon, dressed up to look like Jesus Christ.

Mammon worshippers worship not just Mammon - money, material wealth, greed - but those blessed by Mammon with money and wealth. Hence the passion, spittle-flecked defenses of the richest people in the solar system writing laws and tax code to benefit themselves to the detriment of everyone else.

Because Mammon worshippers don't just worship Mammon, but those blessed by Mammon.

It's why they talk about Jesus all the time, but when it comes time to put it into action, do nothing but disparage anyone who doesn't worship Mammon or who hasn't been blessed by Mammon.

Jesus said to sell your shit and give the proceeds to the poor. But, fuck that noise yo, I'm going to vote a bunch of greedy sociopaths into power and let them proceed to screw over everyone but themselves, because they dress up and pop into church on Sundays.

A La Carte religion with it's many different/translations of the bible is what allows you to have westboro baptist church on one end and openly gay pastors performing gay marriages on the other end,

or would you rather have only one correct bible written in one correct language written by one correct prophet that uses the fear of violence and mayhem on those that dare criticize it, ridicule it or its followers the way many of you do to this A La Carte religion you hate so much without fear of reprisal.

If the bible was really the word of god there would be only one correct interpretation and either Westboro or those gay pastors would be heretics. That's the freaking problem, everybody has their own version of the bible (or other holy book of choice, other religions are as big a bunch of lying hypocritical scumbags as Christians are) that says what they want it to say.

The Lord Spaketh saying "Lo! GagHalfrunt is my one true prophet and my most beloved follower. Shower him with money except for you babes blessed with hotness, you shall please him sexually in any manner he demands for it is my will to hear him beseech my sacred name with "Oh God! Oh God! OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!" many times each day."

There, brand new bible that's every bit as valid as any of the others. You can have your own too, it's just that easy. Except that mine is better than yours and the only path into heaven is to do what mine says. Yours gets you a one-way trip straight to hell while I'm partying with drunk sorority chicks for all eternity. Kiss my ass heathens!!!
