Since it is cloth, there is not much protection betwen the cloth and the foam underneath. Try the unscented foamy carpet cleaner and let it soak in (flood it if you have to) before you vacuum it up. The next time you take the kids, you might want to run down to Walmart and pick up a very cheap throwrug and lay it over the seats. I know you don't want to embarrass the kids so the rug might look it belongs on the car seat instead of something plastic and obvious.
