Breaking news: a house in my town, Stephens City, VA, just blew up. The family that lived there had multiple children. No word yet on survivors. One adult male transported to hospital. Probably cause by natural gas explosion. There is literally insulation on the roads all around here.

Update:

Here is the news story and pics: http://www.nbc4.com/news/6604998/detail.html

sucks, my wife got home one day and the whole house was filled with gas... it turns out that our roommate accidently turn the stove on while she was cleaning it. the stove doesn't light unless you turn it all the way, so if you just turn it a little, the gas will start leaking.

wife's lucky the house didn't blow, i'm sure it would eventually if the gas reach the pilot light of the gas fireplace.

I've seen that happen to house half a block away from where I live. Moral of the my story don't smoke in the basement if your also storing fireworks there.

That happened here last year to a guy that had just built a home....he was a contractor and ended up dying in the explosion. Just goes to show that gas isn't always that safe if the people using it aren't careful or if you get a leak that goes unchecked.

Luckily, the psi coming out of the line is extremely low pressure....

This happened in my town about 15 years ago. We were sitting in class, and it sounded like someone slammed a door (and we were about 4 - 5 miles away.) It turns out that an older woman had a leaky stove, and the spark from a light switch ignited the explosion. Her house became a pile of rubble, and she perished.

I'll probably ride by in the morning on my way to work. From what I've heard, there's pretty much nothing left. Something powerful enough to throw insulation several miles definitely didn't leave much else behind.

Im sure it was a large explosion but I highly doubt debris is 4 miles away...

We all know how the news likes to hype things.

that is why Meth Lab sorta sounds plausible.

He said insulation was in the street....I would think that it's definitely possible for insulation to burn, go up into the air and float down 4 miles away if the wind is blowing enough...

As far as big debris....I agree. 4 miles is a bit much.
