and i'm not talking about the ones where the light changes to red as they go through the intersection...

my rant is about those who run it after my light light has turned green and they still run it...

at some intersections, 3 or 4 sometimes 5 cars will go through after it turns red...

/end of rant

Selfish. Most people are nowadays, so expect to keep seeing more of the behaviour. I'm mean enough to laugh a bit when I see one of these people get creamed when running a red light.

i got a ticket for a red light a little over a year ago, but it was close and like at 1 in the morning. I honestly thought i had a shot at making it. the thing that ticks me off is when there is a lot of traffic and the cars are stuck in the intersection when other lights are green, making the traffic worse for everyone else.

I am accepting of it out here because its the only way to keep traffic moving. The programming of the lights here is completely terrible. It does cause other problems though.

around here its expected that 3-4 cars will go after the light changes to red. They wont spend the money to put left turn lights up at a lot of the busy intersections, so everyone just deals with it.

Now if there is a left turn light, and some asshat runs it...I will still go when my light goes to green. If I happem to ram some asshat who was in too much of a hurry, oh well.

Other problems? You mean like frequently fatal high speed side impact collisions?

edit: If you're referring to unprotected left turns, that's different. If they have already entered the intersection before the light turns, then they have the right of way to clear it.

no..mostly just traffic jams. as when people run the red light and proceed to fill up the intersection, so the people coming in the orthogonal lanes have nowhere to go, so they inch out into the intersection a little...pretty soon nobody can go anywhere.

Ah... gridlocking. That's illegal and potentially dangerous too (though not as bad a high speed red light runners, who I think should get the death penalty). Cops too busy hunting down speeders for the revenue I guess.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, you would still be at fault. According to the law when your light turns green you should only enter the intersection after you have determined that it is clear of traffic. He would still get a ticket for running a red but you'd be partially at fault as well.

and then you have these idiots who think using traffic cameras to catch them is a bad idea.

excuse #1 - what if i loan my car to my friend who runs it? either your friend should ante up to it or you should count your blessings that all you got was a ticket after loaning your car to a reckless driver..

excuse #2 - Big Brother will know all of my whereabouts now...You need to eject the Conspiracy Theory from your DVD/VHS player and step away from the TV...

I guess my idea of having a steel barricade thrown across the lanes that should stop after the light turns red probably won't fly...

This is a big problem in San Antonio, TX too. That's why when I'm first at the light and it turns green, I spend a second or two checking both lanes before I go forward. Also, one of these days, if I see someone trying to run the light, I might just lunge forward and then hit my brakes just to scare the crap out of the red light runner.

Unfortunatly, it is usually the innocent people who are just going through their green light that get creamed by the guy who is running the red light.

May my grandmother rest in peace

Yes but there's the one's on a left turn light who go through after my light is green. I really want to pull out in front....at least after we get a newer used vehicle that will be worth more than $50.

There was an accident about three weeks ago because of that. A Dakota ran a red and got T-Boned by a semi. "Ownage" doesn't even begin to describe the result, since the guy wasn't wearing his seatbelt.

Actually, as somebody pointed out in another thread, it's technically illegal to do that.

You can't read. Staley8 agreed with me.
If you are already in the intersection before the light turns yellow, waiting against oncoming traffic at an unprotected left turn, then you have the right of way to clear the intersection.
Drivers entering an intersection when their light turns green may only do so after they have determined that the intersection is free of traffic so that they can cross completely to the other side. This is designed to do 2 things: it lets the waiting left-turners clear out, and it prohibits a driver from entering an intersection that he knows he would have to stop in the middle of (i.e. gridlockers).
Now, if only the police would actually enforce these laws (yeah right, as most people don't even know this simple rules of the road).
