I have a friend who everytime I tell him to leave AOL, he tells me: "But what about my friends on AOL? How will I talk to them if I'm not on AOL? What if they have filters to block all emails from non-AOL members?" Sigh.... :(

I still pay $10/month + $5 per hour for my 1800 dialup account, I haven't used it in the past 2years since I use cable but I still can't get myself to give it up for some reason.

Not for me. I had AOL (yes, I shamefully admit it) for 3 months back in 1994. I went to Netcom and had them for the next 3-4 years until cable became available in my area. I've been on cable since then. It's not exactly cheap but it is smoking fast compared to dial up. I don't think I could go back to dial up...ever.

A 50 year old fat woman would also have lower self-esteem than a skinny woman, and therefore be more susceptible to media advertising and peer pressure to join AOL, rather than a skinny woman who has a greater chance of valuing her health and independent research on which ISP would maximize her dollar.

OBvsiouyly.
I like it :)

No, he doesn't travel.
AOL has content beyond what the internet has
Like more boards to chat with p33ps about mo\/135 4Nd STufF.

Spudd, stop being friends with him.
What is he doing on dial-up?? It's all about the broadband
Good question, and I have no idea why. He tried broadband for a little while and then didn't want to keep paying for it, so he downgraded to aohell and saves about $20/month. Additional info on this guy he has a CRAPLOAD of money in the bank. He only moved from India maybe 4-5 years ago and he hordes all of his money. He makes a good bit and is cheaper than you would fugging believe.

Maybe he has aol for broadband? You know, with that yellow stick man running really fast on a treadmill in the commercials. Thats how AOL broadband works, they make the man run faster.

I could easily make my outlook express client say "you've got mail" ...but I prefer the dungeon keeper sound "New mail has arrived" myself.

OP, wtf? I can't believe people keep signing up for AOL with the $10 local ISP that can do a much better job around. Oh course, you can't argue with a 13 year old girl when "All my friends, like, totally use AOL"

I would think an IT worker would inately know better. Or at least give in from being chastized so much.

I like the Monty Python "Message for you sir!" with sound of arrow hitting chest.

My mother-in-law has freaking Road Runner cable modem internet. No self respecting IT person should use AOL as their ISP and certainly not for $24/month!!!

"Looks like we have a letter" from Blue's Clues :-x hahah. Lost it when I reformatted about a month ago.

Very sad. AOL leases their modem banks from many of the same companies that several nationwide ISPs do as well like Earthlink and Highstream. My girlfriend had AOL for a while and now has Highstream. She still uses the same number to dial in.

True... I only pay $15 for unlimited BYOC. My mom likes AOL so I pay for AOL over cable.
