I've seen this among forums, it seems quite popular, but guides tend to be limited. So I'm going to post one with pics. If it doesn't serve you as a guide, well, it'll serve you as eye candy then.

So what are stealth drives? Well if you're like me and you bought an expensive brushed aluminum case, you want to hide those ugly beige/black things. You want aluminum dangit. So you stealth your drives. This makes it match the case and make it look sleeker than ever.

Things you need:
Dremel
Fiberglass cutting discs
Sanding bit
Masking tape
Spare blocks of wood that you can cut up
Double sided sticky tape
Sharpie marker

Okay with those materials in mind, lets begin!

First, you want to mask off the front of the drive so you don't scratch it or accidentally dremel it. Then after you're done with that, mark the places you want to cut your drive. You'll need to cut it at the closest edge of the drive bay cover making it about 1/4th of an inch all the way around. (see picture)

Sharpie that edge! (btw, I later put on the tape and remarked, this is just a reference picture)

Then you want to take that baby outside and dremel the heck out of it. You're basically looking to make it even on all four sides. Here's a picture of a drive cover before and after.

Before and After

Okay to mount them on the drive you need to put double stick tape on the CD tray and stick a couple of wooden blocks on there to hold the drive cover on. Then you need to put a small block on the inside of the drive cover slightly smaller that the wooden blocks so that it can push the button (you need to eject still hehe). Here's a pic of the blocks on. The small block to push the button is not pictured, but you can improvise. I used a few small pieces of cardboard stacked on top of each other to the height I wanted and taped them together.

Blocks on the CD tray

Then using double stick tape, paste everything together. Your drive bay cover should have freedom to swivel a little so that when you press it, you'll hit the CDROM button. Anyway, here's with it mounted.

Finished!

And here's with them hidden and another with them out.

In and out.

I hope someone found this helpful. It's an old trick, but surprisingly, not many people are sure how to do it. Have fun!

Hey, that's pretty neat! I just spent $80 on new black drives for my black case though.
