A GPU for a 4k TV -- Is something close on the horizon?

Hi AT,

So I've decided I want to play games in the living room on a 4k tv (is that 1440p?) and I'm looking at GPU options. Edit: I see I am way off, 4k is much higher res than 1440p. Looks like if I'm buying this gen, it's just the 980ti?)

I understand that Fury/x/Nano and 980ti are currently the only cards out capable of handling demanding games (if even that) at 1440p.

But are there cards on the near horizon coming out? I'm so out of touch (haven't bought a card since the 7970) that I've forgotten the times of the year AMD/NV release new cards.

Basically what I'm saying is, if I buy within the next 3 months, and I getting tech that is going to be obsolete very fast?

I know that one can always play the waiting game forever, but I mean, are we close to something new?

Ta.
