just throw it away unlesss you need that incessant beeping when you hold down keys for too long or on reboot.

It takes a far more powerful magnet than would be in a tiny speaker to effect your hard drive data. And was a 3.25MB pic really necessary?

Might I suggest getting some really good photo-editing software to go with it? lol :p

Your hard drive have magnets 50 times stronger then that inside itself. You can run a magnet across your hard drive with little or not chance of lossing data. A lot of mainboard have build on tiny speakers or little 1cm circle speaker that can be attach to the mainboard nowadays.

A speaker is present in almost every case out there. You should leave it in there to allow it to warn you if something does go wrong. You could rig up a shield of some sort around the speaker too.

I think the people who designed the case knew what they were doing. The speaker as stated above doesn't put out a strong enough electrical fields to affect any mounted hard drives. I have seen cases where the speaker was mounted above the hard drive and actually fell off and was resting on the hard drive. We only noticed it when I took apart the computer for cleaning. Hard drives 10+ years ago were the ones that could have been damaged by magnetism and unfortunately this has carried over the years when it no longer applies. Leave it where it is and if it bothers you too much; put a layer of tin foil between it and your lowest mounted hard drive.

I have a case with a similar setup running my old Athlon Thunderbird rig. I never even hooked up the speaker in that setup, but I didn't take out the speaker either. It's never caused any problems with any of the HD's in that system. It's about 5 inches below where the HD's are, so I am pretty sure it doesn't have that strong of a magnetic field to actually affect anything. Still, if it's worrrying you, just yank that puppy out. The only time you really need a PC speaker is when you have a problem with your BIOS (like you're trying all kinds of OC settings / timings, and your system fails to boot properly). Sometimes the amount of beeps and the duration of beeps can be used to troubleshoot your system...

Very true. I have a whole bunch of HD magnets stuck on my ceiling at work. Everytime a HD dies I take it apart and throw the magnets up to the metal ceiling. Almost impossible to pry off. I Have quite a few up there. No wonder I cant get a signal on my cell. :)
