We are over 9,000 people at this site (all used to work, at sometime in the past, at the same LARGE company). It was my first job out of school, and I spent 11 years there so have many fond memories.

I proposed that we all dig through the old pictures, scan them, and start posting them online. I have pictures from 15 years ago of many long-lost friends, and I'm sure some of those guys have pictures of mine I would love to get a copy of now..

Trouble is, I'm not sure how to organize the thousands of pictures I suspect we will get. We could organize them by year or office site or event (but we're talking over 100 site locations and dozens of events each year). Naturally most pics involve several ppl in an office, and we dont always remember everyone's names too...We just need a way that ppl can easily pick their way through them.

I can't think of a good way, so I thought I'll ask all the experts here at ATOT.

any goooood ideas???

thanks for the responses people, but I really wasn't asking about the mechanics... maybe I didn't express myself completely.

I need to figure out how to organize the pictures so that
(a) people will be inetersted in uploading them with the right (and complete) info - so it has to be easy and not too involved
(b) others can sort through the 1000's we expect to have to be able to find what may be of interest to them

for example, I was at the Malaysia operation in 1991. Several ppl moved in and out of Malaysia during 1991 and I also visited several other operations during that time...

You'd have to force the user to comment. Use a script that doesn't allow uploading unless it's properly commented or placed into the right category. You pretty much have to build the form interface.

Could just use pics.bbzzdd.com and have everyoen name their picture sin a certain way so you can find them with a search. Then put some other descriptive text in the filename to tell what exactly it is.

FTP would be my suggestion if you're wanting to limit access. You can always do anon. ftp too....but it will let you create a directory structure for organization rather than trying to do it through the web. I would hate to have to generate a new web gallery everytime an image is added.
