I need a good time and cost effective solution to clean all the dirt from inside my computer. I have so much dirt caked onto my heatsinks, my temp has risen about 5c since the beginning. any suggestions would be so gelpful. thanks

pc duster/whatever dust off lots of brands (gas)..

high pressure.. clean things right up :) should do it once a month or so.. find it at most computer/office supply places..

I use a presurized air tank, ya know like the ones ya fill ballons, basketballs, tires and junk. And just throw on a airgun on it blows dust easily out of the PS and little cracks.

Vacumm, that does it for me. Just because were you're pointing it, you prolly also want to unplug the computer, just in case.

Prevention is even better. AirFilters are wonderful! :)

Be careful with a vacuum, you'll create a LOT of static electricity that could ZAP your parts.

what if you have a vacuum with a long plastic attachment and you don't actually touch your components? will that zap it too?

vacuming is fine. It's better than the air dusters since they blow the dirt out and it just settles on the bottom anyways.

I use a fine bristled paint brush. It's not as fast as a vacuum but it's very effective and better than just blowing it around with compressed air.

HAHAH thanks guys. About the pressurized air tanks, isnt there moisture in those tanks because of the fact that it pressurized? I will try the vacuum, it seems the fastest and most cost effective. Thanks again :)

btw, maybe i will just hose it off :)

i just use a vacuum. never knew i could create static electricity with that thing, but my computer is still chugging and i've vacuumed it a few times already. i should probably be more careful next time. ;)

I've heard it's dangerous to use a vacuum, but I've seen people do it without any problems. The safest thing is probably compressed air. If you don't have an air compressor you can buy canned air.

funny :D

i just use a blowbrush. once again, if you clean it often, ie. once a month, they won't accumulate, so less work overall.

you don't really want to used air out a compressor unless it's clean dry air (moisture and particulates have been removed) with a low flow controller. Obviously the moisture buildup would casue water damage to your parts, but without the low flow controller, static buildup moving across the motherboard, pc parts could cause damage. The best air is the expensive crap.

I've never had water spit out of my tank, i think the gun attachment may have a filter on it.
Also when i use it for airbrushing, if a little drop got in the mix, it would sputter and thick droplets of paint would come out, thats never happened either. Surely blows a sh|t load of air at high presure and very effective of getting dust out quickly, out if tight places.

A PC duster and paintbrush does it's job nicely. I don't use vacuum just cuz I don't have a small handheld unit or anything.

Just had a thought, how about keeping a small vacuum going all the time as the OUTAKE FAN?? Wouldn't it work just as great sucking the warm air out, and the dust at the same time? :D
