x700. it will be faster than a 9800pro which plays 95% of modern games fine. F.E.A.R. is the only one to not run well at 10x7 high or at least medium. AOEIII(demo) runs 10x7 all high/enabled, except low shadows/no aa fine 50fps average on my machine wiyth a 9800pro. fear will need 800x600 to run smooth though. every other game will run fine.

Need a PCI Express card though.

Then a x700Pro will do you fine, it's only like 130 or something. 6600GT is better, but it costs at least 150.

By non gamer I mean not hardcore about it...not going to get the latest & greatest videocard for $500 or $600. I do like to play an occasion game, but that is not what my machine is for. That is why I am trying to strike a compromise and get a "decent" 3D card with great 2D.

he will play games.

Here's the cheapest pci card newegg had, but if you look around, espcially on ebay, you could go cheaper ($5-$15) SAPPHIRE RADEON 7000 64M PCI Radeon 7000 64MB DDR PCI Video Card

Don't waste 100 bucks on a video card you don't need.

yup, agree on this... but if there will be a lot of budget still, then i guess it's he's call... :)

ei mixman, can i just have the x700 because i could make more use of it and swap with my 9550XT?? :D but it has to be an agp though... :D

you call this a non-gamer card??? ;) in my country, this card is already a gamers', dream!! :D

Compared to a lot of guys on the Video Forum this would be a budget gamers card. Especially when people here talking about spending from $300 to $600 on a card. The one I picked out would be considered low end.
