I've never shopped for computer parts in this time of year before... Right now I can get a i7-860 CPU for a ridiculously low price through my job, so I'm going to jump on it while I can. My question is would I be better off waiting till after Christmas to buy the motherboard/RAM? Do stores like Newegg typically have post-Christmas deals on this stuff? I'll be taking everything else from my old system.

If you can wait for the after xmas sales, it can't hurt. Memory prices won't change much; you might get a bigger rebate if you wait awhile. Motherboard prices are pretty steady until the board hits the end of it's production life. Lots of amd ddr2 boards are on sale now with rebates. I get 3 email promos a week from newegg; Monday is a shellshocker preview for the whole week. Sign up if you aren't on their list.
