<< We need a site for the typical PC user, written by the atypical PC user. >>

I like this idea! Maybe "AnandLite" :D

I've been lurking around here for a long time but never felt qualified to post.(still learning tons too) Some of the articles do get very complicated. Most over the typical surfers head. And with the short attention spans too. I enjoy learning, but most people live in a "plug n play, I use it don't want to know how it works, but I want the best one out" world.

mikable - in what ways do you think that our articles and reviews are too complicated or hard to understand? We'd like to hear from you guys so we can try to improve the quality of our reviews for all level of readers.

Hmm, I guess going shopping with last week with a friend showed me how many think.
I said, "lets go surfing on the web for reviews, and prices".
He replied, "That's boring, got to wait for it to download, it's all techy, and then you have to actuly *find* the stuff in the store. Most of *that* stuff you can't find to buy".
"but you can buy it on the net if it's a good price" I said.
"nope ain't gona happen," he said.
So, we went to the stores.... Best Buy....Circut City, Computer city...etc...

All he wanted to know was "what's the fastest", "What's the cheapest". So, I try talking AMD/Intel, pc100 vs pc133 and homemade systems vs ma&pa shops vs off the shelf....

Brick wall.....

"But I can plug this cute translucient "strawberry" colored one in with no messy wires and my daugher would love it!"

Thank god I talked him out of that....

I duno, it just seems we like to know our systems inside out tweaking and testing the limits. The average consumer could care less, instant gratification is the theme. The longer the article, the more pages it has, the more tech specs it mentions, the less average consumers want to read it.

So, I'd like to see maybe first a general summary of the product that appeals to the "consumers" before you get into the good stuff. Then maybe a seperate page that tallys the results of the reviews for similar products. Does this make sense?

This is exactly why the average consumer talks to the guy making minumum wage in FutureShop or Sears computer department. The reason we have WinModems, and the i810 (integrated video) chipset, etc... The average consumer doesn't go looking for reviews. They trust the minumum wage guy to tell them that this computer runs by pressing this little pretty button.

I had a friend who wanted to read some reviews but found them too technical. I told him to hit the index and just read the summary. That seemed to work for him, generally short and to the point.

I personally don't read reviews that do not have the technical aspects. The more detail it goes into the more it has my interest, the more benchmarks the better. I do prefer more scientific approach to benchmarking. It does seem that Anandtech is sometimes a little sloppy with how they list their benchmark configurations in their reviews. I often find configurations that do not match what was reviewed, it just seems like it is cut and paste with little checking. That is my sole complaint about the reviews... oh yeah, more of them! :)

Anyways, thanks go out to all the Anandtech reviewers.

Sorry I had to step away last time I was posting and hit "Reply" before I was actually done.

The best bet for the Consumer who wants to do some homework and avoid all the techy details is to hit the first and last page. (Intro and Conclusion....these pages usually summarize features, cost, installation, system requirements).

thorin - very well said. I guess there are always these two markets. People who want to spend more time and read more, and some that want some short answers.

mikable - If you want, I think you can first go read the Index, then go for the test, final words, and how we rate. From those pages, I think you should be able to find out what's in the motherboard, and in short whether it is a good one. Then if you feel interested, you can dive into the details.

dszd0g - are you referring the the error I had? :( Sorry about that. I have learned the hard way of copy and paste. I will try to aviod that in the future. But when I wrote 4 consecutive reviews, all on KT133, I was tempted... Sorry about that.
