A good reason to bash WinXP


I never really realised it till I read this article.

I had always thought that updates is a good thing...untill now, I realised oh yeah sometimes after a update things go wacky.

Gee.... I wonder how do we get mainframe's stability and PC's functionality.

With so many different configurations out there, you really can't blame them...
 

Oh man, dare I mention the L-I-N...fanboys that'll come into this thread?

I like WinXP, but I agree that it could be more 'finished' out of the box...like most MS software.

I guess in certain sense... administrator is reluctant to fix something unless its broken. Then, theres multiple security loops holes that requires so much attention. Its like theres an Easter Egg everyday except its a rotten one each time.

As for configuration, thats accecptable. Which is why we have our drivers from our respective manufacturer. But when MS decided to intergrate so many function in its OS which is contradictory in some sense. I guess the amount of buggs get increased exponenetially.

It could be a different story though if everyone in the industry works together hand in hand. But its impossible since MS is propietary.

Urghh... I kind of promised myself that I should stop so.... I hope that MS gets wise.

Lol what a BS article

The total download was about 30 megabytes, which, together with installation, took about 40 minutes, even with the high-speed Internet connection at the AP?s headquarters

Now I've downloaded updates that were 29MB with my CABLE modem (which shouldn't be as fast as his connection at the freaking AP headquarters) and It took me all of 5-10 minutes to download, install, and reboot.

we'll never get the stability of a mainframe just because the x386 architecture. I'm not a mainframe guru by any means, but the performance, stability, and reliability of them is just incredible. Here's a link (Aces Hardware) with more about them.

Let's not compare software to cars, these are very different things. personally, I think that software and computers are a more complicated subject than cars (and are more reliable BTW).

The program, in this case, was six ?critical? updates and eight ?recommended? updates. Reading the descriptions showed the difference between ?critical? and ?recommended.? As in, it is ?critical? that you exit your burning airplane and ?recommended? that you use a parachute in the process.

yeah there are a lot of updates. But XP pro is far more stable then any other OS i have used (only used 2k for a short time). I am really happy with how stable it is. just wish you didnt need a power machine with a bunch of memmory to use it. oh and wish they would reduce the bloat.

That's why they let you uninstall the updates, although it would be nice if they didn't cause problems.

His high-speed internet connection sucks and he appears to blame MS for it. 30 megs in 40 minutes(including installs). A typical user bitching about stupid shiat.
