A Good (non Slashcode-like) Content Management Sytem?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good lightweight (preferably free and open sourced) content management system that's more along the lines of whatever custom application ArsTechnica, HardOCP, and even AnandTech (I'm sure they're all using different apps though) to automate the publishing of news, photos, and articles.

The reason a say non-slashcode like (which would include all of the Nukes, IMO) is that I don't want a system set up for simply posting news and then having users leave their comments there, where they can be rated, moderated, etc.

Instead, I just want something simple that could automate everything so that everytime I post a picture or an article somewhere on my site I don't have to code everything by hand!

Further, I would also exclude something like MovableType, as that to me just seems like a really nice blogging tool.

And yet, perhaps I am wrong about these programs and they're really more flexible than I think they are.

If this is the case, feel free to correct me on this as well.

These still all seemed to be too Slashcode/Nuke like or Movabletype-like. Great for front page stuff, but how do they do for articles, etc.?
