Hello everyone, I've been using a thick cloth mouse pad for a long time. I've gone through various computer mice and have always used this one. I'm just wondering if it's finally time to move on.

I play an older fast twitch type shooter and was wondering what would be a good pair for the G500 mouse. Also, I was wondering if there would be any major difference in how the mouse responds.

I would like to keep it less than $20 please. Also, I would prefer if it was average or small in size. I believe many of these gaming type mouse pads are very big. Thanks.

Gamer type mouse pads are big for low sensitivity gamers. Low sensitivity means you will move most of the distance across that mat to turn 180 degrees in game, so it has to be big. The size is thus essential to those that use their mouse in that way. Presumably you are a high sensitivity gamer, which means you will want a mat with more resistance. I haven't used high sensitivity in a very long time so can't really advise on the kit that is best.

It isn't really high or low DPI. I think that hard pads are recommended for laser mice like the G500 while cloth is recommended for optical mice. Some laser mice do not track as well on cloth. I prefer to use cloth (currently using a Razer Galiathus Speed) with my optical mice (G400 and IE 3.0). For twitch type shooters, most high level players use low sensitivity/DPI.

I picked up one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826991001 after years of not using a pad, and I freaking love it.

It is gigantic, 36 inches across by 18, which I bought specifically because my keyboard slides around the desk sometimes. Now my keyboard rests on top of a portion of the mat and is rock solid, and I still have plenty of room for my mouse.

The edges get frayed, but I bet that happens with any cloth pad over time; good thing is, I can spin it around so the frayed area is now under my keyboard. I will be buying another of these when it wears out.

I agree. After trying the Razer Sphex and the Roccat Sense, I settled on the Steelseries QCK Heavy, the large one. It's basically perfect. Loads of room, very stable and secure and perfect texture for control. My favourite ever mousepad has always been the original Allsops, and the Steelseries QCK Heavy is basically an improved, HUGE Allsop.
