I have an HP 2100m LJ. Works great, looks great and is pretty fast. I think it under 1000 now if you can still find it. I beleive they are up to the 2200 series now.

i'm really looking for a printer that can print as soon as something is sent to it... does this printer do that?

Yep, it also has IR, I can print directly from my palm and ipaq.

You might consider a HP Laserjet 2200DTN.

1200x1200 dpi
19 PPM
Duplex capability (prints both sides)
Network card
Built in IR receiver

It's designed for small workgroups.

If you need more than that, a LJ 4100DTN would probably be a good bet. The 2200 is a great performer for it's price, but the 4100 is a true workgroup printer, & has the paper handling options to prove it. An IR receiver is not standard, but can be added.

Personally I'd go for the 4100. The 2200 is a good little printer, but there are no maintenance kits & no user replaceable parts. The 4100 is extremely modular in design, maintenance kits are installed every 200,000 pages, the fuser is user replaceable, etc.

i set up our 5 physician heart center with a hp4050 laser printer (probably a more recent version now). it is a fantastic printer. rated for 50,000 pages per month. excellent experience with the toner cartridges as well. beware the low end cheaper lasers, you get creamed on the toner costs.

the really neat trick i did with our printer (its on a LAN i set up) is to attach a HP printerpal (not made anymore, but available new in box off ebay, be sure to get the laserprinter version of the printer pal. PM me about this if you want) The Printerpal is a receive only fax module that allows you to print faxes on your laser printer! saves tons of money not having to by disp[osable for a fax machine, more reliable mechanically, laser output, one less thing for the secretaries to "maintain" then use any old fax machine to send faxes (we get about 5,000 pages/;month faxed to our office, use to have a fax machine that ran out of paper or had mechanical problems constantly).

highly recommend hp

highly recommend getting a decent printer for office use (1000-1500 is the right price range), you won't regret it.
