A good/inexpensive DVD player?

Looking to buy a decent DVD player that isn't too expensive. Any recommendations are welcome. I'm not looking for anything fancy with gadgets or additional things i will never use.

I've been using the Philips DVP642 for over a year with no problems.

Hell, I even fixed mine this week when a capacitor blew. Now I'm into it for $57 (cheaper now than last Feb 2006 when I bought mine) + $2. It's also region free if you have PAL discs.

Standard def? Do you need divx support? I love the philips line of dvd players. if that's too much for you ($50-80, depending on hdmi support) then really any dvd player will be around the same at the sub -$50 price point. insignia (best buy) had a dvd player that was suppsoed to be identical to a more expensive Oppo model, all for $38.

Philips - dvp3140 - $40!

If you have a HDTV you want one with progressive scan. If you are on a standard set, any old thing will manage from the OP's wants.

The DVP642 has it covered, I have it hooked up to a 65" 1080i CRT rear projection via component cables and

If you have a High-Def TV w/ HDMI, go with the Philips DVP5960. about $70.

This is a nice player that, IMO, is the replacement for DVP642.

Register and buy it directly from Philips for $54.99

The main selling point for me was:
1. HDMI
2. USB support!!

Imagine hooking up a flash drive or even an external HD and having the player be able to play whatever is on that drive. Niiicccee!

I bought a Pioneer 5-disc carousel DVD player that was like-new condition for $20 shipped on the FS/FT forum. 😛 It is way more than I'll ever need for the time being, but definitely give the FS/FT a look-over, if you don't mind used stuff.

He's asking for an inexpensive player.

For that kind of money, why not look for a DVD recorder? Or a five disc changer? That thing has nothing except HDMI, which is available on many less expensive models.

I got the RCA DRC247N at Wallly-World for about $45. The component looks slick and it works fine. The buttons on the remote are small, though, and the tracking motor is noisy when selecting menus and chapters. It is progressive scan (most are these days, even very cheap ones). No HDMI or 6-channel analog audio output, but it has every other output you might need.

This is just one example of what you could get for $50 or less. I figured the quality was about the same for any inexpensive model, so I chose one that I liked the looks of, because I have to live with it in the room, even when the power's off.

Whoops ... misread the OP! 😱

I've had very bad luck with RCA stuff though, so I'd spend another $10 and go for this $59 Panasonic instead.
