A Good Idea - We should replace jumpers on parallel ATA hard drives with dials.

Four-way clicky-type dials - master, master w/o slave, slave, cable select.

What do you think?

i have also wondered why the hell they didnt do that to begin with :frown:

either that or like one of those on off sliding switches but with 4 settings

maybe dont even have the master w/o slave setting, just master/slave/cable select

I have a better idea, why not have a BIOS in the dang things? Actually, does it REALLY matter? I just as easily can boot from a slave device, or a second set of IDE buses. I simply go pull all of the jumpers all off and let the mobo's BIOS solve the matter. I have yet to run into a performance issue.

Jumpers aren't too bad if you have a removable rack for them in your case.

Speaking of floppies, what the hell makes them so special that they get proprietory power and mobo conectors? You'd have though that they'd have tried to get them to at least use a standard molex conector, I can understand that it would be a big endeaver financially to make the floppy IDE, and not worth it. But why the hell didn't they use standard power?

Parallel ATA is going away, though, and serial ATA doesn't require jumpers IIRC.

With only one drive per cable, what good would jumpers do?

lol you could probably keep your computer until then and show it to them and they would be like what the hell is RAM?

why is it so loud?

why is your computer like that? (refering to insides and such)
