A good idea - PC gamers VS Console gamers

I dunno if i heard this idea elsewhere but forgot about it, anyways wouldnt it be brilliant to have servers with games like FPS games and you could play online with people with consoles? It would be awsome! They would be sitting there with the stupid lil analog stick or d-pad trying to shoot and get completely annihilated by us PC gamers. Heaven, even the "n00b" scum could help out and camp the console players spawn points etc :) It would bring PC gamers together and we could laugh at console players.

As for the feasibility of that plan... who knows...

I've thought of this before too, and technically I think its been entirely possible for some time now. However, it would result in the wholescale slaughter of console gamers online...which wouldn't help sell many consoles. So I doubt we'll ever see it.

I don't think noobs could get beat some of the better console players...but you really are crippled without the mouse.

I really have never understood the whole console vs. PC war. It's like saying that car CD players suck because they only play in the car, and not in the bedroom.

Yes, control is more precise on a PC FPS. But I'm not looking to earn the "most precise player ever" award.

Some games feel better with a mouse and keyboard, sitting up close to my monitor. Some others feel better on my sofa and LCD with analog sticks. And no, I am not prepard to spend the money so I can play my PC at 1080p on the same sofa and LCD.

Enough said.

they don't even make fighting games for pcs anymore. mouse+kb controls for that would be hilarious though.

I would HATE to see this. If you think the local Counter Strike community is bad.... that xbox live can only be far worse.

Usually you get some sort of aim assistence with analog sticks (further proof of the inferior control) however it can really REALLY help. Without it they're obviously screwed, but with it they have a fighting chances.

The counter-strike community would be one of our best weapons.... Hoards of n00bs, scum, hackers, and of course a-holes :) Those console freaks wouldnt stand a chance!

the kids on xbl make the CS kiddies look like normal everyday people. there are a few exceptions, but it seems like less and less everytime i'm exposed to them.

If they released Halo 2 on PC, I bet I could own anyone on PC, even though I'd still be on console.
I think it depends on which the game came out on first. Like if a game came out just for console for a while then 'ported' to PC, 'consolers' could beat 'PCers', and vice versa
but if it came out on both, I think PC would have an advantage
and plus, they could cheat

Don't stop at FPSs, let's throw in some fighting games, sports games, action games, adventure games and racing games to go along with it :D It is funny to watch the realization sink in on PC gamers faces as they realize that overall, their platform of choice is a pathetic joke as a gaming machine :D

When that 1337 gamer is getting schooled brutally by a challenged eight year old playing on a console in DOA4 it really sends warm feelings through me :p

auto aim in halo2 is terrible... a person jumped through my crosshair and totally dragged my aim from looking bottom-right to top-left:Q

A gamepad for the PC can be had for an extremely low price. One exactly the same as your pathetic console pad can also be had for the PC. Come on... ex square circle triangle??? What kinda crap is that, A B and C were much better. I have a microsoft sidewinder, unchanged in the past 5 years, ive had the gameport and the USB version, its pretty damn good and i would give those 8 year olds a run for their money in any of the above games, given a few hours of practice!! :)

Anyways the PC could also configure the controls and screw with them so PC users probably wouldnt have to button bash with half those games to get a special move.

The only controller worth using with a PC is one that is console native- PC controllers are sickeningly pathetic junk at best.

Did you look at a PS once? Is that where you got that silly nonsense? Holding my 360 controller and I can't find any circle or triangle- just letters.

Sucks just as much now as it did when it was brand new. I also have a SideWinder- tremendous POS.

You would get obliterated; badly.

They have had console controllers with macro support for decades now. Welcome to the late 80s :p ;)

Anyone remember Sony trying to design a frontend from their website where PC users could load a small app that would connect to the Sony servers so that PC gamers could play Quake 3 against Dreamcast console gamers ??

Found a wiki with info on it, but as far as I know it was never implemented.
Quake 3 wiki

Edited for more info:
Quake III Arena was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and featured 4 player online play versus Dreamcast and PC gamers. Before Activision could release the "official" Dreamcast Map Pack, a "hacked" copy of all the Dreamcast maps was released. This map pack included the maps specially created for Dreamcast split-screen play, which were never meant to be released. Once the "official" map pack was released, the other map pack became harder to find. PC Players were required to downgrade their installations to point release 1.16n to play alongside Dreamcast players, but the maps would work on the final 1.32 point release.

Hmmm don't think so. The time to put x-hairs on your head for PC is whatever the persons reaction time is. On console it's reaction time + wait for the stupid player to move.

There is no direct mapping between what you do with the stick and where the player looks, you have to hold it and wait until it's right and then let go.

So what you gonna do when I come up behind you?

Clearly, spin around and shoot you in the face. Your post just made absolutely no sense at all.

sensitivty can go to 10 which is so fast that your character can't physically turn around in-game to follow what you are seeing

This was done. I remember playing on a few of those maps with the Dreamcasst players. It sucked for them though. IIRC they were limited to 30FPS and dial-up. Plus, most of them were using gamepads. It wasn't even fun. I don't ever even remember getting killed by any of them. Most of the times they'd just quit after a bit. It was obvious who were PC gamers because of the skill level differences and the ping to the servers. I got called "PCer" and a few other names by the guys who actually had keyboards attached to their Dreamcast. LOL.

AHA! Yes! Youve reminded me of another fantastic point. " got called "PCer" and a few other names by the guys who actually had keyboards attached to their Dreamcast" You cant talk on a console (for the most part, obviously as you say some niche people will have a keybaord attached) :) Damn starcraft and every other multiplayer game i play would completely suck without the ability to type/talk. VOIP is nice... but theres always people that dont speak english or have a daft (IMO) accent, or a crap mic, and you cant understand them or they you. The ability to communicate in text is extremely valuable. Especially in games where teamwork is a key factor.
