If anyone here uses/has ever used/has ever even heard of a good dvd ripper, please let me know.

I have been browsing Google results for some time now, and tried countless trials, only to be disappointed by each one more than the last.

One last thing that I would like said dvd ripper to be able to do is rip dvds as wmv movie files.

Thanks in advance for any tips to guide me through this seemingly hopeless search.

To rip as an ISO, I've used DVD Decrypter, DVD Fab Decrypter, and RipIt4Me with success. It sounds as if you're looking to rip to a video file, Xvid is a popular format if wmv isn't a hard constraint. Programs such as Fair Use Wizard will do that with a minimum of fuss. I've also had people suggest Auto GK.

Wow, thanks for such a quick response. I have tried Auto GK, but it does not do what I need it to. I will definitely give the others you recommended a try as well, though.

mundane's advice is solid. DVD Decryptor by itself may have trouble defeating newer copy protections, and last time I used DVD Fab I could only rip to a dvd folder and not an iso (don't know if that's changed) so go for RipIt4Me + Fairuse Wizard (though like he said, it won't do WMV. I personally have x64 do the video encoding at 700mb for a full movie with ogg at 36kbps for the audio. This will output a movie.ogm file which you can play in media player classic)

Yup, I tried out Fairuse, and it does what I need it to do.

Thank you for the response, though. I was glad to see that all of his/your recommendations are freeware. I was prepared to pay a little bit of money if I could find a piece of software good enough, but the freeware recommended here is better than any of the trials I tried.
