I'm working with a limited budget for a Cisco router (3-400). Does anyone know a decent model to use for CCNA exam practice? Thanks.

The 2500 series are good starting point. They use those at the training centers, and you can pick one up cheap off the Net or Ebay.

Any opinions on a Cisco 1604 for about 200 bucks? Or would a 2507 for 320 be better? Both run some 12.x IOS.

Buy a router simulation. For that kind of cash you should be able to find something that will actually simulate a whole network, with switches, routers, and the ability for multiple configurations and the testing of your virtual network. You'll get more out of one of these than you will out of a cheap router, trust me. I have heard of some good ones that my friends have used, but don't actually know the names of the software.

Buy The Sybex kit for the 507 test, which includes the study book and an e-trainer and can be had for a little over $100.

Once you have that you can buy the RouterSim virtual lab for $89.

And don't bother to buy a router unless it has the full IOS.

If you're taking the official course you can buy an 806 router, which has IOS v12 for only 200. Otherwise it'll cost 650, about what a 2500 or 2600 will cost on e-bay.

So, like the other guy said, get a simulator.
