the official kit is nice. a colleage has had his fail after a year's use. he then bought a charger and batteries. if my official charge kit fails, I'll do the same.

What do you mean 'fail' ? Was the battery not holding its charge anymore? If so, that's just how current batteries work. They can only be charged up so many times.

I just use a regular AA charger and maintain a large supply of batteries. Maybe if I did more online gaming, I'd really feel the need for quick-swapping battery packs, but not now.

I used a $10 off coupon and got this Nyko recharging station. It comes with two batteries and has worked pretty well. My stash of rechargeable batteries kept getting raided for kid toys so I decided to switch to something that wouldn't get 'borrowed'.

I just use AA (nimh rechargeable) batteries. I always have extra AA batteries charged and ready to go so swapping them out is no big deal.

I'm very happy with my official quick charge station. A friend of mine has the Nyko charger and one side of it broke pretty soon after he got it. The other side still works. Totally anecdotal evidence, though... the MS charger could have failed just as easily.

I've also heard people recommend Sanyo Eneloop batteries. They're NiMH batteries that maintain a useful charge for much longer than most NiMH batteries.

I definitely need one of those. We got my daughter one of those SmartCycles for Christmas. Fantastic toy but the damn thing runs on batteries only. 4 D batteries that will run out in a week's worth of use.

Do you actually own one of these? I ask because for that price it sounds too good to be true especially since it comes with the batteries.

Yeah, I have actually bought 3 of the costco packs just to get the batteries ( gave away the chargers. )

They were actually $26 at the B&M costco. Very good deal IMO

I've got the Costco Eneloop charger also. I think that price online is a little more than I paid in-store, but either way, it is definitely worth it.

Wow. I just realized, after re-reading the original post, what K3N the OP was asking about.

If you're doing endurance races in Forza 2, the controller will go to sleep after ten minutes or so. You can correct this by pressing a button every once in a while, but there's no way of speeding up the race. I think he was actually asking if there were any alternatives to the play and charge cable. If the controller's plugged in, it will not go to sleep.

I've even thought of getting one specifically for that purpose, but I can't help thinking that it's basically paying real money for virtual game money, since I already have a charger that works great. I don't need a play/charge cable for anything.

Heh. Maybe if I get Rock Band one of these days I'll just use that for the enduros. :p

The triggers and analog sticks don't keep it alive?

They do, but you have to actually move them. I tried wedging the stick to the side once and it didn't work.
