Hello i would like some advice on a good router to buy. We currently have an unbranded ADSL router. We have basically given up trying to use the wireless because of the hassle it is trying to set it up, get a connection going, worrying about the unsecure line and constant connection dropping so we are looking for a new router! What would is the best value router that can hold a steady connection, can be used for an xbox 360 and is strong enough to travel through a brick wall/ wodden floor? We are currently on BT Broadband.

P.S Also BT have not upgraded our local line to 8MBPS like is advertised on their website and promised to do 2 months ago. What can I do about that? Would it be possible to cancel due to breach of contract and go for the cheaper and faster SKY Broadband? Thanks.

1. Routers are not Adsl or cable. they are Routers.

2. D-Link in my opinion is the best. I never had any problems EVER with ANY of my D-Links but the first Linksys i bought i threw it out after 6 months because it was a piece of junk

3. as far as model numbers go. They are all the same really, Just look for things you want like firewall, wireless access, number of ports and so on.

When my family switched from DSL to cable some time ago, we opted to get a dedicated modem from the ISP, and deal with the router and AP ourselves this time around. We ended up with a D-Link DGL-4100 and a D-Link DWL-AG700AP. This was a rather expensive solution that took a bit of time to set up properly, but I can happily report that it works MUCH BETTER than any integrated wireless modem router I've ever used or seen, and has far more flexibility to boot. I can't make any specific claims about signal strength, since I live in an apartment, but I've worked for 8+ hours at a time on my laptop without losing the wireless connection. It does work fine with the 360, of course - it supports the "best" UPnP mode, so you shouldn't have any trouble with people connecting to you, or vica versa.

I would consider a Linksys WRT54G (now more commonly known as WRT54GL). It is a great little piece of hardware, pretty quick and it never crashes with DD-WRT.

In the UK the combo ADSL Modem/Route is popular because BY give then as part as the service.

In reality the is No preferred Modem/Router that can be recommended.

The Router part of these devices is inferior to ant average stand-alone Brand name Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

Therefore, the best ?combo? is a stand-alone DSL modem and stand-alone Router.

Wireless What Should I Get?
