I was originally set on the nec 930sb but this model is now defunct and can't be found anywhere, what would be a good enough comprimise? I'd LOVE to be able to have 1600x1200@85hz.

hey its cool that you just mentioned the 930sb, i ordered that yesterday (refurbed of course)... none left in stock anymore tho and it was UK site im afraid, but cos you mentioned it it must be good 😀

Samsung 997df is nice.

I am waiting for the thin CRTs to come out. 🙂

off topic, you think thin CRTs will come in widescreen flavors?

i got my eye on the dell 2005FPw . . . but $800 is too much

with certs, i got it down to $520, but still a lot

I have a dell 19" Trinitron and I love it.

I will only replace it with a PAIR of 19" LCDs

I have had it four years and It is AWESOME>

I just bought a Samsung 19" syncmaster 997DF a week ago for $200 shipped, and this thing is simply beautiful. If gaming at 1600x1200 @ 85hz is a requirement for you, then this monitor is not an option, as it will only do 72hz at that resolution. As for me, this compliments my softmodded eVGA 6800NU perfectly, as it allows me to game at 1280x960 @ 85hz, while my video card lets me run any title with 4x AA/8x AF without ever dipping below 60fps at practically any time.

*Edit*
Axiontech carries the NEC 930SB brand new here
That thing is expensive!
But it sure gets better refresh rates than my monitor 🙁

I bought mine at techonweb.com and received it 2 days later after my order confirmation on UPS ground shipping. It was awesome, and cheaper than Newegg. 2 days for UPS ground blew my mind.

Sony made a widescreen 1920 x 1200 CRT (24"), but it was way expensive.

The 2005FPW is probably the best priced widescreen monitor out there at 1680x1050, and at $520 it's the best you will do for a while whether it be CRT, thin CRT, or LCD.

Edit: I'm glad to see that no one has recommended the Dell 1905FP as good 19" flat panel. The picture is great for 2D, but it smears and ghosts badly with games.

Thanks for the thoughts, I was going to revise my selection to a number of choices - however I just ordered a refurb one from nm-select.

I wanted to stick to an AG monitor, so that right there ruled out the 997 (which is a good monitor, I just wanted to get better, my fault for waiting until after the holiday season.)

$260 for a refurb with a 3 year warranty isn't too horrible, as long as NEC will actually honor the warranty should anything happen.

Sadly though I think this may be the begining of the end of high quality CRTS, everyone seems to be pushing towards the LCD market.
