Well, a buddy of mines gave me a 3.0e (socket 478) presshott, since he's no longer using it. And before throwing it away, I decided that I could use it for a personal file server. Anyhow, I'm in search for a good motherboard that would overclock the crap outta this processor (to make the processor useful) .

Any recommendations?

1st question: "throw it away"?
2nd question: "to make the processor useful"??

Granted, it's not the greatest gaming processor in the world but for ANYTHING else it's waaay more than enough.. ESPECIALLY for a fileserver. - and you wanna overclock a file server?? that's definitely one of the more asinine ideas I've heard on this board.

Well, I'll overclock anything I can get my hands on. Sickness? Anyhow, I'm not going to be storing any important data on it, mostly pr0n. The overclocking part, is mostly for fun.

Asus P4P800 is what I used to take my 2.8E to 3.5ghz, P4C800 is good as well. Abit IC7.

Sweet, I heard good stuff about the P4C800, might go with that one. Thanks a ton.

These processors still sell for around $180 (new). Don't sell it short, it is still a very good processor. If you don't want it, put it up for sale. You would probably get some good cash for it.

I've got the same chip, for the $150 I paid for it it's still a damn good one for multitasking in dreamweaver and photoshop and midrange gaming.

I'm using the asus P4P800 SE, running 3.3 ghz @ 1:1 1.4v, idles at 35c, load at 47c.

I've gotten it up to 3.9 @ 5:4 1.475v but wouldn't run stable with my heatsink. I'm installing a new one this week to see if I can get it stable. Stable at 3.6.

This is a great board. Had a 1.8 in it for a while and ran it at 2.4 with no problems. You should be able to reach a 33% overclock with the right cooling on most sock478 P4's.
