While looking thru a local computer shop that builds their own computers I noticed they no longer carry AMD CPU's. Asked why and the rep told me they where having Heat issues with all the AMD Computers they built so they switched to Intel. Hummmmmmm

I have had from the beginning a AMD K6 166, 200 oc to 233, 233, oc to 250, 300, 400 K7 Athlon 550?, then a Thunderbird 800 and when the sockets came out Got a Athlon 1.2 gig then upgraded to a 1.4 Now using a XP 1800 with out one I oda of overheating. Now this is a large established private company that has been in business for years. Wonder what I know that they don't

No John its not won't post the real name for the sake of the Company but they have two outlets and the Name starts with A

Hehe They might not be very reliable for them cause of the end users. If they had people coming back cause they started screwing around in their systems then that could be the problem or maybe they just use shoddy components, which will cause alot of reliability problems with AMD systems.

Who knows, maybe they just don't know what they're doing. I wouldn't buy a system from them, but some people might trust the company to know what they're doing.

<< I have a TB 1.4 that runs @ 70C. >>

Heh Damn d0od, what are you using this machine for, to heat your room? I'm surprised it's still running, or is it?
I would start using a fan on that heatsink 😉

There's nothing wrong with the retail HSF. I'm using one right now with an 1800+ on an Epox 8-KHA+, the highest temp I've gotten is 42C under load. I will say that the clip was a mother to put on though 😉

I used to buy complete systems from a company called B3. They dropped AMD because of the "heat" issue. They were using Thermalcrap HSF's.....so sad.

My temps run about 55 to 60 C with Seti@Home running its also HOT in my Apt.

and this Rep also told me you can only re activate Win XP 3 times before you have to repurchase it?

That would mean me who updates every few weeks would be soon broke. is this true?

they probably splodged on a thick layer of grease on the HSF, which would run for a short while so they could say "it works", when after some extended use it falls over...

What makes you think the local computer shop
gave you the honest answer ????
If you ran the shop, you would say its none
of your business what I do.....
