You're kidding me, right? Was he serious when he said it?
 
its not the ice cap...its just ice at the poles. the penguins live on land; and have to cross miles of ice to get to the ocean to feed in the winter. during the summer much of the ice melts, so getting between ocean and land is much easier. Ill add that penguins dont live at the north pole, only in the southern hemisphere, though not only in the antarctic

he was incorrect...but he didn't make it up.
