A fix for AOL 5.0 disabling Earthlink?

I know this is old news, but my uncle is behind the times. Was there ever a fix for AOL 5.0 disabling Earthlink as well as other ISP's? He wants to switch over to Earthlink, but isn't able to currently.

Whenever someone I know leaves AOL I save their important data and do a clean install. Only way to be sure you got rid of all the AOL crap.

EDIT: Have you tried calling Earthlink support? They may have a fix.
