A Financial Decision

Would it be cheaper to just buy an espresso machine that can steam milk and get beans and what not, rather than just buying my coffee each day? I usualy go to Sbucks, but they are pretty expensive, and Id like to customize my drinks. Would it not take long for the machine to pay for itself>?

It would probably be less in the long run, yes. Or you could just find some place other then *bucks, the whores of the coffee world.

if you want to save money stop drinking coffee. otherwise, go the sbux, get your coffee and enjoy. its only a few $, besides you are helping the economy!

How about you just skip the entire expresso/cappucino/mocha drinks and just drink regular coffee. Then all you need is some folgers coffee crystals and you're good to go.

It depends on how picky you are. I've got a cheap Melitta machine, and my palate is uncultured enough to be satisfied with it. Tastes just as good/better than Starbucks.

Well why don't you do the math?

How much do you pay per coffee?

How many coffees a day?

How much does the machine cost?

With that, you can determine how long before the machine pays for itself

In business, this is know as the break-even point

Indeed, it will likely not be as good as the Starbucks version. The espresso machine / steamer that we have at work costs $15,000. And as we all know, price is directly proportional to quality. (j/k, sorta)

It's not bad at all... I have a $50 Krupps espresso/capp machine with a steam wand, and I make GREAT cappuccinos with it. Everyone who I make it for agrees it's as good or better as any fancy restaurant (and these are family members who are never hesitant to criticize me!)

You don't need an expensive machine unless you like all the bells and whistles. What do the $800 machines do that mine does not anyway, give you a backrub while it brews the coffee?

Yeah but in business they'd also calculate the cost of every kilowatt hour electricity spent making the coffee 😀

Oh but I did forget one significant expense: the coffee itself. I buy 5 lb. bags of GREAT tasting coffee online for $35. One bag lasts me about 2.5 months.

I had an espresso machine and used it for awhile but decided I liked "normal" coffee better, at least the way I make it: Starbucks Caffe Verona ground fresh from beans, 2% milk, turbinado sugar.

The cheaper ones usually don't build up enough pressure. In a rare find, I discovered a Krups espresso machine at my local Goodwill store for $29, and it was complete! no missing parts and in perfect working order. I looked it up later and found that it was normally around $250. It does an awesome job.

Paid for itself in a week. Mrs. Elektro likes decaff caramel lattes.

I guess it all depends on how much time and effort you're willing to put into it. It takes me 10-15 minutes to make a full cup or 2 half cups, but that includes giving everything a thorough cleaning beforehand. The payoff is well worth it... it even imparts that lovely smell into the air.

..once you start grinding your own..and use a good drip machine like Cuisinart Stainless Steel..you'll never go back..except for convience..right now I'am enjoying Yemen Mocha extra dark whole bean..very good.

Thanks for the recommendation, is this the same model?

I hate that BS line. If he spent his money elsewhere on something else, he would still be helping the economy. If he saved his money and invested it somewhere, he would still be helping the economy. The only way to have money and not help the economy is to stuff it under a mattress.

Hmm no, it is a 'Bravo' machine

this is it

looks like it's hard to find them anymore- can only seem to find 'factory re-conditioned' ones. I bought mine about 3 or 4 years ago so I guess it's been discontinued.

Wow I never really thought about how long I've had this machine and it's still going strong- for just $50 one day at Sears

Ha, I guess if I get this and bring it to college, I can sell coffee to other ppl in my dorm 🙂

that';ll def be worth it 😛

isint a latte just Espresso and Steamed Milk?

Starbucks coffee is not expensive... you guys need to get over it. their specialty drinks are expensive compared to their coffee, but not compared to other establishments.
