I just took the plunge and everything is GREAT, but, I have a few questions:

How do I edit the boot up menu, or have it skip completely? There's an option for DOS which doesn't even work.

What programs are there to optimize my system, specifically internet?

Can I use my regular CD-COPYING programs? I have NTI CD-MAker pro with a Memorex 622 drive.

What's the difference between the Pro versions and others?

As there is no msconfig or equivilent built into win2k i use "Start-Up Control panel" by Mike Lin, availible at his site:

http://www.mlin.net

The site also contains alot of other great freeware tweaking apps that were designed, and run on windows 2000.

Edit the boot.ini file, which is located in your C:\ directory. Make sure you show all files and make sure you uncheck the box in folder options to hid protected operating system files.

The difference between professional and server versions, is the Server versions are exactly what it sounds, it's for running a server. Server is tuned for the background servies while win2k pro is tuned more for applications running in the foreground. Also not sure if this still holds true, was true for nt, win2k pro is limited to 10 user connections while server is unlimited. Pro only supports 2 cpu's, while server supports more.

While there's no true msconfig utility you can see what's in the startup group. Open Computer Management an go to System Information->Software Enviornment->Startup Programs.

That can at least give someone a quick look at what starts up on the system. From there you can go to the registry and edit the startup groups.
